Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter (cold)
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips or batons
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add warm milk and knead until smooth.
- Shape dough into a rectangle, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare butter block by pounding cold butter between parchment papers into a rectangle; chill until firm.
- Roll out chilled dough, place butter block in the center, fold edges over it, and roll out to a long rectangle.
- Fold the dough into thirds like a letter; refrigerate for another 30 minutes. Repeat this rolling and folding process twice more.
- Roll out final dough rectangle, cut triangles, place chocolate at the base, then roll towards the tip to form crescents.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover loosely with plastic wrap, and let rise until doubled (1 to 1.5 hours).
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), brush croissants with egg wash, then bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow cooling on a wire rack before serving.
