- 1 cup light corn syrup

- 1 teaspoon red food coloring (gel)

Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove wax by dipping in hot water if necessary.
- Insert wooden sticks into each apple's center.
- In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium heat until dissolved; stop stirring once boiling.
- Attach a candy thermometer and cook until syrup reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat; stir in food coloring and extract quickly.
- Dip each apple in syrup, rotating for an even coat; let excess drip off.
- Place on parchment-lined baking sheet to cool completely.
