  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 12 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (whole)
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • For the Filling: 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • For the Cream Cheese Frosting: 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes). Add melted butter, sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and beaten egg. Gradually incorporate flour until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for one hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Roll out risen dough into a rectangle (½ inch thick). Spread softened butter over the surface, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll tightly into a log and slice into twelve pieces.
  4. Place rolls in a greased baking dish; cover and let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown. Meanwhile, mix together cream cheese frosting ingredients until smooth. Frost rolls after they cool slightly.
