  • 1/2 cup sugar (add brown sugar for deeper flavor)
  • 2 packages active-dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar (for topping)
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (divided)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 23 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix warm milk and water. Add softened butter and beaten egg.
  3. Gradually stir the wet mixture into the dry ingredients until well combined.
  4. Add remaining flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  7. In a saucepan over low heat, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, and room temperature butter until melted and smooth.
  8. Pour mixture into the bottom of your greased baking dish and sprinkle chopped pecans over the caramel mixture evenly.
  9. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle shape.
  10. Brush melted butter over the dough.
  11. Mix remaining brown sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg; sprinkle evenly over buttered dough.
  12. Starting from one edge of the rectangle, tightly roll up the dough into a log shape.
  13. Cut into equal pieces about 1-2 inches thick.
  14. Place rolls cut-side down into the prepared baking dish with caramel topping.
  15. Cover rolls with a towel again; let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
  16. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  17. Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  18. Allow sticky buns to cool slightly before flipping onto a serving platter to reveal gooey caramel on top.
