Ingredients
- ¾ cup warm milk
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 1 tsp ube extract
- 6 tbsp softened unsalted butter
- 3¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 package instant dry yeast
- ⅓ cup ube halaya jam (for filling)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter (softened) for filling
- ⅓ cup heavy cream (to pour over risen rolls)
- ½ cup cream cheese (softened)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (softened) for frosting
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ⅛ tsp salt for frosting
- ⅔ cup confectioner’s sugar
Instructions
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix in egg, softened butter, and sugar until combined. Add salt and flour; knead dough for 5-7 minutes until slightly sticky.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 30 minutes until doubled in size.
- Prepare filling by mixing ube halaya jam, brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread filling evenly over the surface.
- Roll tightly into a log; cut into nine equal pieces.
- Place rolls in a greased baking pan and let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Pour heavy cream over the rolls before baking at 350°F (175°C) for about 21-23 minutes.
- Prepare cream cheese frosting while baking by blending cream cheese, butter, vanilla extract, salt, and confectioner’s sugar until smooth.
- Spread frosting over warm rolls and enjoy!
